Move Pink DS Lite - here comes the DSi

So, you've got your pink DS Lite and you're happy. But do you know what's coming next? The DSi.

The next generation DSi will be about 2.6mm thinner than the current Nintendo DS Lite. To give users even more options, the DSi has two VGA digital cameras; one on the inside hinge, facing the user and the second mounted in the outer casing. The Nintendo DSi handheld also has slightly larger screens (3.25 inches compared to 3 inches on the pink DS Lite). A significant improvement in speaker quality will see you enjoying far more realistic sound effects on this console.

In terms of brightness setting, the DSi goes one step further - literally, five over the four settings on the DS Lite but this does mean that battery lifer is reduced slightly to around 14 hours on the brightest setting.

Pictures, games and audio files can all be stored, and played from, the new external storage SD card slot. Unfortunately, the DSi is no longer backward compatible with the Game Boy Advance as the GBS slot has been removed on the new console - no more Nintendo DS Rumble Pak or Guitar Hero: On Tour!

The DSi does have one really significant improvemnt - upgradable firmware.

Much like the iPhone and Android OSes, the DSi can connect to an online store (similar to the Wii Shop Channel). The store, names DSi Shop, allows users to download games and apps to the DSi's internal memory or SD card. Users will pay for these offerings in the form of 'Nintendo Points' and will range in price, from free to 800+ points. The DSi Shop will be accessed via the DSi browser, a (free) download. Fans of the pink DS will be glad to hear that the DSi will aslo come in pink!
